roller q derby a - Demanda Riot (PART 3)
DARSTROSITY: You ever got nervous in a game?
DEMANDA RIOT: Nope, I get stoked... really, really stoked.
D: You ever scare somebody with your war paint on?
DR: Ha. Every time! Make babies cry. I had teammates tell me that their friends had to leave the bout, as I was too disturbing. I’m sure they were exceptionally gentle creatures.
D: The west coast is really tough for the past 2-3 years how cool is it to be part of it?
DR: Brutal and brilliant. I wouldn't have it any other way. I live for the struggle.
It keeps my team and my self always pushing forward. And it comes down to bouts being won by the team that brought the best game that day. Not so much about being "the best" so much that you're untouchable. And it's nice to not have to cross the whole bloody country for some rugged match ups.
D: Which roller girl helped you a lot or a roller derby role model?
DR: Liza Machete. She was my first captain, and I will always regard her as my captain. She had the highest expectations, and the buy in that, we could reach them. She's fearless, which vibes well with my fearless, especially as a rookie.
D: You have become one of the pioneers of the new era of roller derby. Do you consider yourself a pioneer in any way?
DR: Nope. Just a skater, and a character.
D: You have any words of wisdom for all derby folk out there?
DR: Skate like you mean it.
D: What’s the bay area cheer?
DR: BBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

roller q derby a - Demanda Riot (PART 2)
DARSTROSITY: Some people know you for you face paint. How did that got started?
DEMANDA RIOT: War paint. Demanda was born with it on. I wore it with blood I think to the Rat City try outs but that got SUPER messy on my helmet. And it couldn't be seen so I ditched it.
For all the reasons that anyone anywhere has ever donned war paint. I couldn’t do it I tend to rub it off. It does rub off some, mostly on other skaters.
D: Playing for B.A.D. what was your favorite game you ever played?
DR: Difficult question. B.A.D vs. Duke City at Western Regionals in Houston 2008. It was the first time that I got to face off against my sister. Miss E. Vil. It was also the first year that Duke & B.A.D made it to nationals. It's totally a personal reason as to why it's my favorite game with B.A.D. But it was a rugged as hell bout, and I really like those.
D: Have you ever teach some roller girls at conventions before?
DR: I've coached along with my teammates at a couple Team Awesome Boot Camps. One in San Diego and one in Hawaii. I'd do more, but it's hard as hell to balance teaching others and keeping on track with your team during the season.
D: Besides you whom does a cool face paint war face?
DR: Retting to Rumble (Oly Rollers) Hands down. Betty Ford Galexcy (Rat City) is another with serious KISS paint. But much less war face.
D: You do bank track with team legit, is there a similarity between bank and flat track
DR: There's a ton of similarity between the two. It's the same game, with a couple little rules tweaks. All the strategy ideas carry over. Skating wise, you're still using all the same movement. The timing is different. Timing is the big thing. That and learning to let the track help you. Flat track we work against physics so much you get used to it. And you don't have to on a banked track. In fact it can work against you.
D: how many time you've been MVP?
DR: 4 times. I got MVP for my B.A.D home team the Richmond Wrecking Belles maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I got MPV for the Legit vs. San Diego Derby Dolls bout. At ECE last year for the VR challenge bout. And then for the B.A.D all stars verses Rat City All Stars bout.
D: Have any derby wifes? Who are they?
DR: Zero.
D: Whoa really?
DR: Yes really

roller q derby a - Demanda Riot (PART 1)
DARSTROSITY: Derby name?
DEMANDA RIOT: Demanda Riot
D: When how did you get that name?
DR: Started trying to figure out a name since a brunch I had with my sister (Miss E. Vil) and a grip of Rose City Rollers ages ago when E. was fresh meat for Rose. I wasn't even skating yet, but it was deemed I needed one. That started the wheels turning. There was this amazingly burnt out drag queen in Seattle called D'Mannda Lott. I totally stole her first name then gave it my own twist. And Demanda Riot was born. I'm hoping Ms. Lott never finds out I stole some of her name. She's all sequin sweaters and press on nails of fury.
D: How long you have been skating?
DR: picked my first set of skates up off of craigslist for $30 when I decided try this roller derby thing. I'd say I'm creeping up on the 5-year mark on skating. And I've skated 4 seasons of roller derby, and in the start of my 5th. So I guess 5 years
D: You play for BAY AREA?!
DR: Correct. B.ay A.rea D.erby girls.
D: You been there since day one?
DR: Yes. I skated with the practice squad P.F.M (prospective fresh meat) when in Seattle. But that's not a league. I tried out for Rat City, but they didn't want me.
D: Playing with B.A.D. what you learn the most?
DR: I've learned just about everything playing with B.A.D. from how the game works, strategy, skating form, derby skills, team work and communication. That's a big one!
